It provides a protective barrier that covers the lower crisper storage pan.  Symptoms of a bad crisper pan cover include: Cracks, holes, or discoloration of the plastic material Improper fitment that does not fully cover the crisper pan Causes of a bad crisper pan cover can be prolonged use leading to wear and tear of the plastic over time. Accidental damage from cleaning chemicals or physical impact could also degrade its protective function. Note: This cover does not include glass.
